A Special Thanks to STEVE IPSEN

November 29, 2008
JFMC and CSI put together Thanksgiving Meal Baskets for Survivors and their families. We were able to provide this to a total of 62 families this Thanksgiving.

Steve Ipsen who is the President of the Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney’s Association found out that we were not able to get all the Turkeys donated at the last minute as expected. So he sent out a bulk email to everyone on his list and members of the association and let them know they could feed a family for $30.00 for Thanksgiving and make the donation online through our web site.
To date we have received over the $1,618.43 amount that it cost for this program and with him and the Deputy District Attonreys we were able to cover all the expenses of this program. Any amounts over this will be put towards future programs for Justice For Murdered Children and Crime Survivors, Inc.

THANK YOU STEVE & ALL THE DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S….

The Charles Dickens Carolers will be strolling and singing holiday songs, a dove release is scheduled and survival techniques will be provided to victim families to assist them during these very difficult times of the year.

A reading of homicide victims’ names and a candle lighting ceremony in their memory will highlight the early evening festivities.  A service of cupcakes and coffee will conclude the evening.

Homicide victim survivors everywhere are invited to attend and participate. Just check in at the Sign In table to ensure your loved-ones name is included in the reading.

Quotation from “The Human Comedy”

November 26, 2008

“You must remember always to give, of everything you have
You must give foolishly even
You must give to all who come into your life
Than nothing and no one shall have the power to cheat you of anything
For if you give to a thief, he cannot steal from you
And he, himself, is no longer a thief
And the more you give, the more you will have to give.”

Marsy’s Law thumb’s up

November 10, 2008

I applaud the success of the campaign for Proposition 9 (Marsy’s Law). At last, crime victims will get a fair shake from the legal system. The Victim’s Bill of Rights passed several years ago was a good beginning, and now with the protections in Prop. 9 crime victims will be treated with the same regard and dignity by the law as crime perpetrators.
Those who worked so hard to pass this initiative owe a great debt of gratitude to Dr. Henry Nicholas who was a great supporter of the campaign. Most people may not know that murder victim Marsy Nicholas, the inspiration for this proposition, was Dr. Nicholas’ sister. Since that killing, some 25 years ago, Henry has been a consistent, firm and generous supporter of victims rights in California. His efforts to help victims of crime can never be overlooked, and we own him our gratitude.
